Guide to the apps

The apps in this catalogue are Progressive Web Apps. They open from a link in the browser, install in one tap, and many of them also work without a connection.

Installing an app

On iPhone and iPad open the app in Safari, tap Share and then “Add to Home Screen”.

On Android open the Chrome menu and choose “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”.

On a computer, in Chrome and Edge, the install icon appears in the address bar.

Audio, microphone and camera

Sound starts after the first tap or click, because browsers start audio on a gesture by the person using the app. Headphones or external speakers are recommended for listening.

The apps that record or analyse sound (Ficana 1891, Soundscape Studio, Frequency Lab, Graphic Score Generator) ask for microphone permission. Very Beautiful and Phonk Hand ask for the camera to read movement. Permission is given in the browser and applies to that app alone.

Working offline

After the first visit many apps also work without a connection, because the browser keeps their files. Maps, streaming radio and the artificial intelligence functions remain tied to the network.

Artificial intelligence functions

Some apps have an assistant or an analysis based on a language model. Where the project page says so, the function is enabled with a personal key for the service, which stays in the browser of the person who enters it. Requests go from the device to the model provider, the rest of the app works locally.

Data and privacy

The apps work without accounts. Annotations, recordings, progress and notebooks stay on the device, in the browser's storage. Clearing the site data in the browser deletes them, so it is worth exporting what you want to keep.
